The daily Word Hive puzzle

Word Hive is a daily word game played on a connected board of hexagonal letter tiles. Trace letters through the hive to build words and score points. Each letter you use is replaced from today’s shared stack.

The six-direction movement of the hexagonal grid gives you more ways to connect letters than a traditional word search. Every word you find draws the next letters from the same stack everyone else is playing.

How to play

Build words of three or more letters by connecting adjacent hexagonal tiles. From any tile, you can move to one of its six neighboring tiles, allowing you to trace a path across the board.

Each tile can only be used once within a single word, so you cannot use the same letter twice by looping back over a tile.

When you find a valid word, those letters are replaced from today’s stack of 1000. Everyone playing this puzzle draws the next letter in the same order. Every 4th stack letter is a bonus tile: 2× and 3× alternate, and every 10th bonus is 4×. You have 20 moves. A word or a shuffle each uses one. Keep going until you finish, or until fewer than three letters are left.

A shared letter stack

Every valid word replaces the letters you used. The new letters come from a stack of 1000 that is the same for everyone playing today’s puzzle.

The stack is drawn in order, so the board keeps changing in the same way for every player. Every 4th letter is a bonus tile, alternating 2× and 3×, and every 10th bonus is 4×.

You have 20 moves. Finish whenever you want to lock in your score. The game also ends after the 20th move, or when fewer than three letters remain.

Make the most of multiplier tiles

Some hex tiles carry a 2×, 3×, or rarer 4× multiplier. These special tiles multiply the letter’s score when they are used in a word.

Multiplier tiles are spent with the word. The letter that replaces them comes from the shared stack, and every 4th stack letter is itself a bonus tile.

This creates an important strategic choice: use a multiplier immediately for a guaranteed boost, or look for a longer and higher-value word that makes better use of it?

Score more with longer words

Your score is based on the values of the letters you use, combined with bonuses for word length. Finding longer words is therefore one of the best ways to build a high score.

Multiplier tiles can dramatically increase the value of a word, particularly when combined with high-value letters. Keep scanning the letters that are still open and try to turn them into bigger scoring opportunities.

Your daily score targets are:

  • 200 points — Bronze
  • 225 points — Silver
  • 250 points — Gold

Can you reach gold in 20 moves?

Shuffle the hive

When the board becomes difficult, you can use Shuffle to randomly rearrange the letters that are still open.

You can shuffle as often as you like. Each shuffle uses one of your 20 moves and does not score.

Shuffle when the remaining letters are stuck, and spend the move when a new layout is worth it.

A fresh word puzzle every day

Word Hive features one daily puzzle shared by everyone playing that day. The starting board and the 1000-letter stack are the same for every player.

Play today’s puzzle, chase a higher score, and return tomorrow for a completely new hive.

Why play Word Hive?

Word Hive combines a hexagonal puzzle board with a shared letter stack. You need to spot words, plan efficient paths through the hive, and make smart use of multiplier tiles and shuffles.

Every valid word changes the board, so there is always another combination to find. A strong vocabulary helps, but good choices about which letters to spend can make the difference between a bronze score and gold.
